Research and Professional Training

This is an area that we consider of the utmost importance in the pursuit of our endeavours, and therefore over the years we have dedicated several specific projects to it. Following you can find the complete list of all our activities in this area, organized by project.

 

Within the “Fetal Surgery” project:

2018: Covered the travelling and staying expenses for Dr. Lapa Pereira, from Sao Paolo's Albert Einstein Hospital. She traveled to Milan to perform two surgical procedures of fetal correction of spina bifida.

2018: Covered the travelling expenses so as to allow several professionals from the Mangiagalli Clinic to attend the ISPSR Convention in Taormina, Italy.

2018: Covered the travelling expenses so as to allow several professionals from the Mangiagalli Clinic to attend a Convention hosted by the South African Society of Endoscopic Surgeons (SASES) in Cape Town, as well as a lecture held within Cape Town's Red Cross Children's Hospital. This was done within the context of an existing project, aimed at creating the first Fetal Center in Sub-Saharan Africa.

2018: Contributed to the organization of the "Innovations in Fetal Medicine" workshop held within Milan's Policlinic Hospital. Our contribution was twofold: on one hand, we covered the translation expenses for the entire workshop; on the other, we covered the travelling expenses for Prof. Rothenberg, who as a result was able to share with all the attendees his experience in treating an extremely complex and rare case of pulmonary malformation.

2017: Provided financial support for a medical team from Milan’s Policlinic to travel to Sao Paolo, Brasil. There, they sat in on an operation of fetal correction of myelomeningocele within the “Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital”.

2017: Provided financial support for a team of doctors from the Mangiagalli Clinic’s Pediatric Surgery Unit to travel to Cape Town. There, they supervised the activation of the Fetal Center project within the Red Cross Children’s Hospital.

2017: Provided financial support for the participation of a health care professional to the BAPS congress in London. The main objective was to present the work done within the Ca’ Granda IRCCS Foundation in the field of fetal surgery.

2016: Provided financial support for a doctor from the Mangiagalli clinic’s Pediatric Surgery Unit to travel to Denver, Colorado. There, she took part in a master of anorectal surgery within the city’s Children’s Hospital.

 

Within the “ECMO” and “Trauma Center” projects:

2015: Covered the travelling expenses for a group of three doctors from the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Foundation to travel to Boston. There, in the city’s Children’s Hospital, they followed a training program on the procedures and protocols to follow when using ECMO on a newborn.

2014: Covered the expenses relative to the participation to various courses of ECMO simulation held within Genova’s Gaslini Hospital.

2014: Participation to a congress in Dublin, within the context of the “Trauma Center” project.

2013: Covered all the necessary expenses for the personnel of the new Trauma Center of the Ca’ Granda Foundation’s Hospital of Milan to attend a training course within the Red Cross Children’s Hospital of Cape Town.

 

Within the “Umberto Nicolini” project:

2017: Covered the travelling expenses so as to allow several professionals from the Mangiagalli Clinic to attend the "Word Congress of Perinatal Medicine" held in Belgrade, Serbia.

2015: Covered the travelling expenses relative to Dr. Rustico’s participation to the SIEOG congress in Cagliari.

2014: Provided financial support for a multicenter study of placentas in monochorionic twins’ births. The Fetal Medicine Unit of the Vittore Buzzi Hospital contributed to this study.

2014: Sponsored a SIEOG training course on twin pregnancies held within the Vittore Buzzi Children’s Hospital.

2013: Sponsored a SIEOG training course on twin pregnancies held within the Vittore Buzzi Children’s Hospital.

2013: Provided financial support for a multicenter study on placentas of monochorionic twins’ pregnancies; the Fetal Medicine Clinic of the Vittore Buzzi Hospital took part in this study.

2012: Sponsored the participation of nurses and medical personnel to refresher courses mainly focused on the study of prenatal diagnosis.

2011: Sponsored a study on prenatal diagnosis which was organized in the Fetal Medicine Clinic of the Vittore Buzzi Hospital.

 

Within the “Children Without Borders” project:

2017: Took part in organizing the “IX International Congress on Congenital Pulmonary Airway Malformations”.

2014: Took part in organizing the “VI International Workshop on esophageal atresia”. Our role consisted mainly of covering Prof. Azizkhan’s travelling expenses, so that he could provide his expert opinion on a number of serious surgical cases that were being followed by the doctors of the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Foundation.

2013: Took part in organizing the “5th International Workshop on the Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia”; our main focus was to cover translation expenses.

2012: Participated to the “International Workshop on Cervical-Thoracic Masses”, organized by the IRCSS Ca’ Granda Foundation. Professor Richard Azizkhan, of the Cincinnati Children's Medical Center, took part in the workshop.

2009: Took part in organizing a first-level University Master on Pediatric Nursing Science held at the Milano Bicocca University. 

2009: Co-participated, together with the Region of Lombardy, to a project of International Cooperation aimed towards creating a partnership between Pediatric Surgery Departments of the Red Cross Children’s Hospital of Cape Town and the Complex Structure of Pediatric Surgery together with the Complex Structure of Neonatal Pathology of the Major Policlinic Hospital Foundation - Mangiagalli - Regina Elena di Milano.

2008: Contributed to organizing a Pediatric Nursing Master directed by Professor Andrea Biondi. The Master was held at the Faculty of Medicine of Milan’s Bicocca State University, where Prof. Biondi is an Ordinary Professor of Pediatrics.
